Petrol Price Rise

The government announced yesterday, during our national day, that the price for petrol RON97 will increase from RM1.80 to RM 2.05 and is in effect starting today.

RON95, the replacement for RON 92, will be sold at RM1.80 per liter.

Diesel's price will remain the same as before.

Petrol hike is really killing poorly paid Malaysian workers.

Despite being a petroleum country, Malaysians have to pay for pricier petrol compared to other countries which are not producing petroleum at all.

A simple comparison below will tell you why our petrol is just not affordable for average income Malaysian.

Basic Salary for a Malaysian fresh graduate: RM 2000 app

Minimum hourly pay for non graduates: can be as low as RM3.50

Fuel price: RM 2.05

Basic Salary for an Australian fresh graduate: AUD$ 4000

Minimum hourly pay for everyone: AUD$ 14.31

Fuel price: AUD$ 1.20 app

Not just Australia basically, people residing in countries like USA, Ireland, UK and Iran are paying so little for the fuel compared to their wages.

Our government was, and is still that naive to boast about their "cheap petrol" which is of course lower than most countries because of our weaker currency.

Are there any Malaysians who are dumb enough to believe that we're buying cheap petrol while we are practically earning a few folds less in salary per kapita compared to other countries?

I hope not.
